Bach Flower Remedies

Who is Edward Bach?

For those that are doing research on alternative medication or homeotherapy, then they have more than likely ran across the name of Edward Bach. They are going to find that there are many Edward Bach's throughout history, however, for the sake of alternative medicine, this Edward Bach was a British physician, a strong advocate of homeopath, and a writer. He was born in 1886 and lived until 1936. He grew up in Birmingham and studies medicine most of his life, reciting a diploma from Cambridge. Bach did suffer from many medical conditions throughout his life, which did spur him on to create his approach to medicine that is still in use today.

Just what is his approach? Bach spent one summer and spring collected flowers and then dissecting them for their healing purposes. His research would become known as Bach Flowers. The strange thing about the Bach method is that he did not ingest or tear about these flowers. He believed in the healing power of the flower and what it could give the person just by being there. In order to conduct his research, he would place his hand over the flowers and whichever flower removed the feeling that he had at the time was the one that he would write down as the flower to have. For example, some flowers would remove the feeling of headaches, while others were would remove anger, and so forth.

Bach when on to get the healing power of the flower into water, which he described as a process that happened when the dew was settling on these flowers and then the dew could be drank by the person suffering from an ailment. However, after researching this he found that the dew was not enough. Thus, he would put these flowers in spring water and then let the sun hit the flower and the water, thus forming his flower 'medicines'.

Despite his upbringing in the medical world, Bach viewed illnesses as an inner battle between the soul and the actions and things that the person did. Thus, he believed that the healing powers of these flowers could alleviate any interaction that was causing the person to become ill. There were many during his time that subscribed to his way of thought and did try the Bach flowers method. And there are still quite a few today that have tried the Bach flowers and found success. However, there are those that are quick to point out just how ridiculous it sounds to have a healing property from a flower that is suspended in water. Though, with every medical discovery of this sort, there are always going to be those that disagree and point to the fact that these discoveries are nothing but nonsense.

Overall, Bach did pave the way for modern homeopath medications and the looking into this as a scientific way to alleviate pain and sickness that people may be feeling. His findings were just the tip of the iceberg for most of the history of the medicine and it is one that continues to grow, despite it not being a modern medicine.
